After my Dad's surgery, Karli and I had to leave Tucson while he was still waking up from anesthesia. Even though I had talked to him on the phone and knew that he was doing so much better, I still really wanted to see him for myself. So, when Brett and Holly invited our family and my parents up to the cabin in Greer, I was so excited. Not only was it so reassuring to see my Dad, it was also a fabulous vacation in the mountains!
Our first morning there, we all went on a walk. My Dad even joined us! He stopped to rest along the way and we caught up with him on the way back. At the end of the road, the kids all piled on a trailer for a picture:

After our walk, Holly and I sat on the porch with my Dad and just talked.

Then, we packed a picnic lunch and headed out to the lake for some fishing.

Since the fish weren't biting, BJ and Brett used some bacon as bait and caught some crawfish.

The kids had so much fun watching the dads catch tons and tons of crawdads. Their job was to use their empty soda pop cans to collect water to add to the crawdad bucket.

Once it started raining, we all headed back to the cabin. But, BJ and Brett were not discouraged by the rain. As soon as they found a sturdier net, they headed right back out. Check out their haul...
Later, we went for a drive and saw so many elk and deer. It was amazing! Then, along with our dinner that night, we got to taste some crawfish. That was fun...too bad I didn't get a picture of the pot full of cooked crawdads.
The next morning, BJ and Brighton went into Springerville to get the flat tire fixed, while the rest of us went down to the Little Colorado River. You would think that the kids would be so happy and playful, but no...they were whining and crying about wanting to go back to the cabin. So, Brett told the kids that every whiner got to start walking back to the cabin with him. Look at this train of whiners...
But, once it was time for ice cream, all the kids were miraculously happy!

The next day was Sunday. After church, we stopped by the tin wall that Holly discovered on a previous trip and took a couple of pictures.

Later that day, we ventured out again to get some pictures in scenic Greer...

As we were getting ready to leave the cabin and make our journey home, Addy said, "I wish we could stay here for a thousand, million years!" Me too, Addy! It sure was fun!

Those are some freaky looking water creatures if I do say so! So glad you got to go and have some fun.
How fun! Sure wish we could have been there too. :)
Karli, I totally agree! They are super freaky, with their claws and everything. Yikes. Tress, I wish you could have been there too. I miss you!
Hooray for happy vacations. I wish I could have been there to join in the fun! Good pics Min. Can I just say that Brighton is getting way too big...I haven't seen her in WAY to long.
Looks gorgeous and fun! Love your beautiful photos as always.
And I'm so glad that your dad seems to be recovering well...

Yes, the crawdads.....my kids love catching those things! How fun! I'm so glad to hear your dad is recovering and you got to spend some serious quality time with him. You're picture are fabulous as always. I was starting to go through withdrawals. You hadn't posted in a while.
Okay, I loved this post and my favorite has to be pouty Brighton! I loved that picture. What great scenery for pictures!
Yay! It was so fun! I wish we could do that at least a few times a year - for sure! I NEED you to send me the picture of the kiddos all together from the walk. Pretty please? I love, love, love you!
Oh and the one of Nan and Brighton together and any other ones you want to send (insert really big smiley face with some puppy dog eyes!) Ha!
Okay... and then the one of me and dad together!
Okay, you took some awesome pictures! I love Greer, we usually stay in a cabin as well. I think that lake is the same one we go to. Lucky little duck! Your sister and you look alot alike, and your dad too. Cute family!
By the way, I LOVE Ken's bob. Super cute, and sassy, fits the personality.
Dear Mindy - I miss your face, your laugh, your family...and we are so close. Oh how sad! Love, Cami
Mindy I love your pics. I'm glad you guys had fun on our mountain. If you guys come up again Give us a ring. We are only just down the road. I am so glad to see your dad doing well. And hey what is the first song that plays when you pop up your blog. I love it.

Thanks all for your sweet comments. Holl...I'll send those pictures over. Thanks for the fun! Aimee...I think Kennady's haircut is super cute too. :) Melissa, I think the first song is called My Destiny by Katharine McPhee. It is a great song, isn't it? I read that Becky ran into you while she was in the mountains. I think it would be so fun to see everyone from high school again!
